You may be right. If shite hit the fan, I’m sure a lot of, if not most gun owners would probably cower in the bedrooms and do nothing. But that’s not really the point. The point is that some would and the government knows this even if it doesn’t know how many. This one simple fact is what has held what small sense of personal liberties we still have safe. Look at what happened in Australia during the pandemic. They were bussing children straight from schools to vaccination centers to get vaccinated without their parents knowledge. The fact that we have guns is why they didn’t go that far with it here. You are right. Most, sadly, would likely have done nothing. But you know damn well there are at least some that would have. That is the point. It is the mere threat and potential of that is keeping us hanging on by a thread.

What is an unorganized group of gun owners going to do exactly? So far, all you people do is type on the computer about how you have the ‘potential’ to fight. That isn’t the same as doing the hard work of, you know, actually organizing resistance.

I'm not trying to fight but I am curious because the truth is we are supposed to be citizens, not subjects and our politicians are supposed to be representatives, not rulers. That's how our country is supposed to work and that seems to be getting forgotten by some

But how power is practiced in reality doesn’t abide by those rules. What I mean is that there were many incremental erosions which had widespread support from conservatives, because the target of those bills were perceived to be the enemy. There was no real pushback to the dramatic increase in the size and scope of the US security state, which is where organized resistance would have been useful. What matters is not some naive notion on how the country is supposed to work, but how it does work in actual practice.
