His book really gave me the impression of a disingenuous conservative. He praised Obama. He was mockingly dismissive of his own youthful evangelical leanings. (I'm not religious myself but now he's conveniently re-embraced those leanings.) But he's been terrific in speeches and interviews. He's willing to be contentious when faced with an openly hostile interviewer but he's much more disciplined than Trump. I've largely come around.
