Is the Texas legislature really going to let the industry tax exemption program expire?

It’s the Intercept with a ton of quotes from a biased opponent, but apparently the Texas legislative session just ended without reauthorizing the program whereby industry can apply for and receive property tax exemptions. The program expires in 19 months and the legislature won’t reconvene for two years. Louisiana made changes to ours and industry revolted.
What’s going on in Texas?

Sounds like these school districts don't care if they lose out on extra money because the money would have gotten redistributed to other school districts anyway. It's a bit of a moral hazard.
Louisiana and Texas should both stop telling locals how to tax and instead offer to cover the property taxes themselves on behalf of industry, or some compromise that is in-between.

Maybe the school districts didn’t care but I’d imagine the industry and their lobbyists cared. Why didn’t they prevail?
In La., we actually did transfer control to the more local entities. We used to have a board that made decisions for the state, but now the applications go to the local governing authorities.

What kind of state legislature only meets every two years? Texas deserves better then that.

Some may think that’s a feature, not a bug

The Governor will call a special session to get the dims to vote.

Frick no we don’t. The more politicians meet the more campaigns and the more they can screw up shite just because they have to do something.

An attempt at wealth redistribution. If your school district gets payments from a company and mine doesn't then that's just not fair!
Just another example of the creep towards turning blue.

Opponents want that money going to the state so it can be distributed "equitably" instead of straight to an ISD.
