If you come in with a level of respect for their language and culture you won't have a problem. They would rather hear you at least try even if you butcher the language than just point on a menu to the English option. They may laugh but they will also help you with the word and have much more respect that you tried. It was one of the most important lessons my father taught me when we traveled when I was a child.

I am sorry about your mom and dad, Dawg. God bless you as you go through, for lack of a better word, this part of life.
I did it twice in the past 7 years, not easy.
God bless.
Thanks, Eurocat. But my wife and i consider ourselves lucky that we could take care of them at this stage of their lives. My dad is gone and mom is failing. We will have time to enjoy traveling later.
I've always wanted to go to Austria, Switzerland or someplace like that in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've heard they have Christmas markets and activities going on, and that seems like a great trip.

Damn man sorry to hear that. Traveling definitely helps make new memories and friends. Would definitely be a good escape during what sounds like a hard year. Austria is great and the people are so nice. Hope you pull the trigger, a lot of people talk and dream about travel and don't know that the easiest way to just go is get on the airline website and book the ticket. EveryThing else falls into place to make it work.

In general, the French have less of a chip on their shoulder about language than, say, French Canadians.
When I worked at Delta the gate agents were all in agreement that the worst flights to work were from Toronto. French Canadians. Worse than new York. Caught me off guard.

Thanks, but I have had an extraordinarily good life. My parents loved my brothers and I and they did without to give us some extras.
I didn't have to worry about any kind of abuse and if i needed something for football they readily gave me money to get it.
Mom has been with us for 3 years now, and it restricts what we can do, but I'll have great memories.

We will definitely go. My dream is to take a train ride though the Alps! I can't wait!
