The Swiss (Militia) Army is modeled directly after America's Second Amendment. They can actually field over a million men in a country of 8.5 million.

General George Patten, Jr. assessed the Swiss Army as highly capable in part because personnel costs were very low and most of the budget was spent on modern arms combined with a lot of training over the decades of service. The Swiss leftist keep trying to vote it out, but it is popular.

Reminds me of a friend who was the chief of a rural volunteer fire station. Most of the volunteers enjoyed the sense of purpose and comradery.

Very interested in this thread. I’ll be retiring from active duty to MS in the next 6 years and the State Guard has a lot of appeal.
