If you buy a Corvette in Germany you pay both the tariff and VAT.
Germany lowering it's tariff to 2.5% on US imports sounds good until you realize Franz is still paying over 20% to import his new ZR1 to blitz the Nürburgring.
Not only does Germany have a 2.5% tariff I believe they have a 10% "Import Duty".
So if a U.S. car was imported to Germany the German consumer would have to pay approximately the following:
Base Price: $100,000
Import Duty: $10,000
Tariff: $2,500
Import VAT: $20,900
Vehicle tax (like and emissions tag): ???
TUV (technical inspection): ???
Potentially other local taxes:????
Total: +$133,400
Probably the best rule of thumb is adding 35% to American imports for German consumers.
