The AL NG currently has 8 general officers. That includes 2 major generals and 6 brigadier generals.

Depends on the size of the state's National Guard contingency. Full birds and brigadiers are typically tasked as regimental and brigade commanders. What's the manpower of a state's NG? How many regiments and brigades constitute its overall makeup? A very populous state with a large national guard could indeed legitimately have several officers ranking O-6 and above.
