I am glad to hear that. There was an AA female standup comic on Showtime that I've recorded, with one of its topics "gentrification."

Haven't watched it yet but I'm sure it won't be complimentary.

It is what happens when a system undermines the values a Country, any country, is built on. Started in the 60's, gone way to far, we need to turn around and return to the society we once were

Kind of - I always remind myself that many people on here live in a climate that is pretty warm all year. A mild winter in New Orleans or Houston or Miami or LA doesn't have the same variance effect on crime as it does for Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, etc

You are correct. I should've clarified and said in places that experience 4 season.

LA, Miami, NOLA and Houston do not experience 4 seasons.

Chicago is absurdly nice and safe, with the exception of a some shitty Southside neighborhoods that literally no functional human being would have any reason to visit. But let's definitely overlook the 98% of the city that is thriving.

Not really

Do you think this is happening all over Chicago or in a small enclave in the city? Have you ever visited a city?

You sound like a stereotypical 80 year old elderly man in his underpants drinking cheap beer and screaming at his television.

That is unkind of you.

He doesn't sound like me at all.

And I drink cheap wine. Nothing but the best in beer for me.

No. Every big city has rough areas and nice areas.

What's the difference in the rough and nice areas?

White flight was a Baby Boomer thing.

White millennials are moving back into the cities.

They were racists for leaving, now they are racists for gentrification. Nashville literally has builders and mil's buying property in areas you would have never even considered 5 years ago. We are fairly unique, especially for the south in this regard I would guess.

Yeah, it's so violent here in Denver. White millennials have taken over the city and are causing widespread violence and mayhem!

Starting in the early 1990's and continuing until about 2011, the city aggressively started tearing down the huge public housing projects that had been nests for some of the worst crime in the country. Tearing down Cabrini Green alone forced almost 30,000 people to move away.

I've read that is a major factor driving the current violence in Chicago. All those people were scattered around and now they're reestablishing turf and boundaries. No clue if true but it makes sense.

Reminds me a lot of northern and western Iraq after the invasion. Not even joking. You go into places like that and disturb the order, and crazy shite happens. 30,000 people cut loose from an economic hell hole is no small problem.
