Brilliant!

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
?
@gillibrandny
If we want to end the opioid epidemic, we must work to address the root causes of abuse. That’s why @SenCoryGardner and I introduced legislation to limit opioid prescriptions for acute pain to 7 days. Because no one needs a month’s supply for a wisdom tooth extraction.

I thought medical treatment was only a decision between the patient and their doctor? Why is she trying to control womens’ bodies?

I had a dentist write a script for 14 Lortab following a wisdom tooth extraction years and years ago.

I looked at him incredulously - I said, "You know I'm going to take 3, maybe 4 of these, tops, right?" I took exactly 3.

Doctors have, by and large, already been doing this.

Your "opiate epidemic" is a function of chronic pain pill Mills and people resorting to street opiates because they can't get safer drugs legally.

14 lortab is basically a 4-5 day supply as the drug can be taken every 4-6 hours.

Dr. Idiot can't legislate that.

Between 2006 and 2017, the opioid prescription rate went down by about 20 percent nationally. At the same time the overdose deaths more than doubled. Most of those deaths involve illicit fentanyl, not Rx.

We shouldn’t push people toward more dangerous substances. @SenGillibrand

The only people I know that still have them prescribed now have to jump through a lot of hoops to make sure they're not becoming dependent, ie piss tests and regular doctor visits to get more. Like someone else said I think most of the abuse now comes from doctors who are already breaking the law and street drugs.

What if a woman needs it because of a botched 3rd trimester abortion?

I get that. And I get that folks need pain medication. I've had hernia repairs that I took a week's worth of pain meds. But, ultimately, you have to wean yourself off and get back in the game.

Folks that sit around and take pain meds for fun have always perplexed me. Stimulants? I get that. I LOVE caffeine. L-O-V-E it. If I had gotten ahold of some cocaine when I was young, we would have had trouble. But, I made some "life choices" that have served me well. Nancy Reagan was right,

1. Stay in school, and
2. Stay off the dope, and

you'll probably be okay.

I just didn't know that.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled and I took one hydrocodone and it made me feel as if I didn't lay down the entire time I was going to puke. Never took one again. In fact regular old Advil worked almost as good at revealing the pain without the side effects.

Hopefully heroin feels better than hydrocodone because if hydrocodone high is similar to heroin then what's the BFD? It sucks.

That's what I love about the tweeter, it exposes dumb people in a public forum.

This is exactly correct. I am a caregiver to a disabled veteran with a spinal cord damage and it is amazing what he endures at the doctor's office. It's a constant pill counting, drug testing, endless questioning, ridiculous and judgemental mess. He has never misused anything and has perfectly abided by all rules, yet he risks being dismissed as a patient and left without any pain relief if he has a drink (wich he doesn't do anyway) or eats too many poppy seeds on a bagel.

It's a pendulum that has swung vastly in the opposite direction from the early 1990s, but damn it's getting ridiculous. Focus on the illegal stuff and stop victimizing legitimate use of these medications.
