When i paid my property taxes last month there was a pie chart describing what my taxes go to.

80% of my taxes went to public schools. I do not have kids, nor did i attend said public schools.

If there were any type of exemption, it should be based on use.

I'm good with this too, because Veterans get used up and thrown away in this country and it's embarrassing.

I promise you I know about that more than I care to post on this board.

And I do donate to veteran causes and I also refuse to use my veteran benefits because I am fortunate enough to be be able to afford to take care of these thing without it and hopefully save those benefits for someone less fortunate.
Good for you! But that's part of the problem with tax breaks. They are very blunt instruments. If veterans got a break, EVERY veteran gets that break (even 4* generals with nice pensions). Taxes are there to raise money not fix problems. Fix the problems with spending.

And I whole heatedly disagree with your implication that veterans are some pet project to siphon money off to. That "fricks up " the tax system. We have a plethora of politicians and lawyers that do a fine job of that with out any help.

Did not mean to imply that. And honestly if we could limit it to just a tax break for disabled veterans that would be fine. But you know that isn't what happens. Before you know it, mardi gras beads are exempt.
