Tons of interesting debates on free will on Youtube..

I've listened to many and pondered it a lot lately. The best I can settle on at the moment is we do have free will but its highly overrated

This was an interesting discussion on the subject on Michael Shermer's podcast

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Yes and no. They have the freedom to choose according to their wills, but their wills are bound to sin unless regenerated by the Holy Spirit.

There are Lutherans, Anglicans/Episcopalians, and Reformed Baptists that also take the Bible at its word when it says God predestines.

I just dont understand what they're point would be if everything were pre-destined. I don't think that there are points in time and events that are pre-determined.

If God has not predetermined what will be, then He is not sovereign over all things. He is merely reacting to everything, and only those things in nature, since He couldn’t override anyone’s will. That means He is mostly powerless to intervene when evil occurs, and there is almost no point in praying for God to act in man’s decisions.

Joseph said to his brothers that they meant their actions for evil but God meant them for good, but that implies that there was meaning and intention from God in their actions, rather than God merely reacting to them.

Likewise in Romans 8:28, where it says all things work together for good for those called by God. Not sure how that could be if God isn’t sovereign over all things.
