First this idiotic Governor, who supposedly lives by a military honor code, increases the number of students taken out of "failing schools" and sends them to private schools on the taxpayers' dime. To those who pay dearly for your kids to attend private schools, how's that make you feel?
Now, because he wants to stay in office so badly, he is proposing to give teachers across the board raises. WOW! Aren't those same teachers at the "failing schools" going to receive those raises, too? Do the incompetent teachers deserve the raise? When is it enough, DumBell Edwards?
And by sending those said students to private schools isn't he conceding that public schools cannot deliver the goods? And isn't his wife a teacher at a public school? Go figure! Vote anybody but DumBell Edwards!

Define "incompetence". Is it based on the flawed "school performance score?"

Lets each make chicken salad. I will use the usual ingrediants and you get to use chicken shite. The end result...you failed (unless you like eating shite). Basically, you have to have something to work with. Parenting, disciplinary rules not being subverted by "special education" guidelines, and a better design from a curriculum standpoint are ALL much bigger factors imho.

I am a teacher, conservative white male, DID NOT vote for JBE (and will not be voting for him), and am indifferent on the proposed raise.

The reason I am indifferent...because I cannot reasonably determine who deserves one. The system in place (designed with the influence of GW Bush, Obama, Jindal, and now JBE) is moronic.

As for me personally, I have had one raise in the past decade. Such is life, I chose this profession. That being said, I feel my students go on to be productive in my community and beyond.
This is just my .02.

In big cities this is absolutely the case. New Orleans and Baton Rouge public schools are an utter government failure.

If you think schools fail because of the teachers, you are a fool and clueless.

You really can't be one of those idiots that think good schools have good teachers and bad schools have bad teachers. Can't be that blind.

Hence the chicken salad analogy. Einstein could teach math to some students and he would be deemed a failure based on the matrix used to determine the "school performance score." As such, there is not a reliable way to determine success or incompetence imho. I can give you my thoughts on how to improve the student's ability to be more successful in the long term, but it wouldn't be politically expedient.

You're going to get lots of downvotes from conservatives and liberals, most of whom let pop culture raise their kids, gave in to every whim, didn't teach their kids how to read before starting school, didn't teach manners and are blowing every penny instead of saving for their kids' college.

And will be the first ones to show up when their snowflakes didn't get an A and want you to teach their kids how to balance their bank accounts.

This is a true statement, however, teachers (and their respective work ethic), are not directly tied to this failure. It seems strange on the surface, but teachers are the proverbial one legged man in tha arse kicking contest. The only difference is, that he isn't blamed for failing.

Just out of curiosity what are some changes to policy or curriculum that you think would make NOLA and BR schools good? What exactly does Central, Zachary, and St. Tammany do that NOLA and BR don't?

Can you give some examples of good non-select school districts elsewhere in the country that have similar demographics?

The reason schools are failing

They are ran the same way democrats would run America if they had full power. Democrats own public schools in America and the teacher’s union is the worst thing to ever happen to this nation. In the last 30 years they have ruined generations of kids by indoctrinating them to progressive ideology. They have brainwashed these kids that capitalism is bad, global warming is real and have subjected kids to things like trans story time.
When I was in school we shot bows and airguns. Today they watch trannys speak and practice putting condoms on bananas with their mouths.

Jimmy,

I live in a 3rd world country where the murder rate is almost 7 times that of the US (and guns are illegal, but most murders are committed with guns).
There are two high schools a few miles from my house and they could not be more different. One has all the violence of a school in the 9th ward of New Orleans.

The other, I have visited many times, the kids say "good morning", I watched one kid thump another on the head and point to his untucked shirt. In a country with a million population, they always have a couple of students in the top 100 when final exit exams occur.

The race makeup of the two schools is similar, all black and east indian. Economic situation is similar.

I was standing in the hall with the principal, in front of their huge trophy case....filled with scholastic trophies. And I commented on how she must be proud of her kids performance, and behavior. She laughed and said, its not me.....its the parents. If I had a discipline issue, I would not have a bunch of liberals talking about rights, I would have a 100 parents demanding I be fired for not addressing it.

I agree with the fact that teachers, alone, or not the problem with failing schools. Funny how some of the parents aren't around at any school functions like awards night, PTO meetings, etc. But have a football or basketball game and you can't find a vacant seat!
My point is that DumBell Edwards uses taxpayer money to send the kids to private schools because the school is considered a "failing school". Let's use the money to get the status of the school upgraded, instead. I know..easier said than done. But if a parent wants a kid out of a failing school, they should move to another district. Just saying...
