WW2 got us out of the Great Depression. Anyone who disagrees didn’t pass 10th grade World History.

My grandfather lived thru it all
.
To his dying day, he swore that FDR dragged us kicking and screaming into WW2 because the New Deal had been such a miserable failure in ending the Great Depression.

I didn’t even look at the thread before my reply. Is that what everyone’s saying? I specifically remember my Sophmore year in High School learning about WW2. I remember we learned repeatedly WW2 got us out of it. A war overseas is good for your economy.

I just listened to Ragnar’s The Other Side of History Podcast about the New Deal, and he slammed it. I think he covered the National Recovery Act on episode one but he’s supposed to do more on his next one.

This is very true but, in all honesty, FDR did put a lot of good men to work with his various federally funded projects.

The New Deal was/is still shite.

It's obviously all theory and there is no "you're wrong and I'm right," but I would argue that the Bretton-Woods New World Order, combined with America's industrial machine rebuilding Europe and getting all the best contracts, is what brought us out of the Great Depression.

Also the fact that we had a bunch of focused bad arse no-nonsense dudes coming back home ready to become productive citizens.

At the time, the average American didn't want to get involved in European squabbles. So FDR allowed the japs to bomb Pearl Harbor in order to change public opinion. He's easily one of 3 worst Presidents of all time (Lincoln - the Civil War, and Reagan - blanket amnesty for border hoppers, being the other 2, imo.)

You may be confusing the New Deal with the Great Society.

Totally disagree. Food was rationed during WW2. The standard of living still sucked horribly for people here during WW2. The reason unemployment was so low was because millions of men were overseas fighting.

We got out of the GD because of the end of WW2 and all of the government central planning that came w/ it.
