Did FDR’s New Deal get us out of the Great Depression? I’ve read by some that it only prolonged it

You could argue either way. He did some pretty sketchy things while President though.

I don't want to say if it got us out or prolonged the Great Depression but it definitely set up most of the shite we are dealing with today.

That's because you have no idea what you're talking about. I wouldn't want to comment if I was ignorant.

Not really... unemployment was hardly improved by the end of the 1930s.

Exactly.

We threw a mountain of cash and grotesquely increased Federal power and had basically nothing to show for it other than long term commitments that it was easy to predict would swallow the Federal budget over time.

I was referring to his knowledge on FDR and the programs that helped end the Great Depression. Do you want to get taken to school on the subject or do you just want to hurl super-weak insults at me?

Can you imagine if Trump issued Executive Order 9066?

There was actually another recession in the late 1930s.

What seems to be rarely mentioned in these leftist schools we have now is that FDR actually had the government setting prices through his NRA.

The heroes of Americans in the thirties were the Four Horsemen. LINK

You should read Wiki on A. L. A. Shechter Poultry Corp. VS USA.

A great book is The Forgotten Man by Shlaes No one should discuss the depression without first reading that book.

The New Deal helped make the Depression more comfortable for a lot of people while building a ton of useful infrastructure like the dams out west and those built by the TVA. However, it greatly prolonged the Depression.

FDR had the government nationalize a private utility to basically start the TVA.

He was out of control.

A tyrannical President that had no respect for private property.

I once toured a gold mine in California. One of if not the last one still open. The guide said FDR forced the mines in California closed and made the owners send their employees into copper and other mines further east during WWII. The owners begged to have the revenue to keep the mines pumped out but FDR would not allow it so they all filled up with water. Miles and miles of water.

How stupid was that??? We could have swapped gold all day long with South American and Mexican miners for other metals. The total number of people employed was not that many either so we could have increased all our metal mining.
