Wouldn’t affect flight control systems, more so avionics readings.

It’s a “fly by wire” plane, the flight control computers need correct airspeed data to keep the plane in the air, there are redundant pitot tubes.

So, the aircraft cannot be flown in "clean" configuration?

That pilot had some bad meetings afterward.

Probably not….. At a certain speed it is better to take an issue airborne versus a rejected takeoff.

They probably used too much Armor All. That stuff always makes my tires a little slippery for the first mile after a car wash. ??

Well, I just can see how this all started.

"Man, those flight controls look dirty....."

Crash by cleaning happened on a commercial Aeroperu flight in Peru in the 90s. Taped over the pitots to clean, and left the tape on. The pilots were getting erroneous errors on a night flight, soon after takeoff, including simultaneous “STALL STALL STALL” and “OVERSPEED” warnings that you could hear on the black box recorder that was recovered.

They got every conceivable warning for a full 15 minutes, and were flying blind. The only info of value they had was airspeed, which was relayed from the tower. They were getting altitude from the tower, which was 10,000, but they didn’t know that the 10,000 was just what the tower was getting reported by the plane (erroneously) and not an accurate value.

So, they thought they were over the Pacific at 10,000 feet, until they dragged a wing in the pacific. By then, too late.
