The Federal Reserve is a private bank. When congress took away monetary policy from the U.S. Treasury in 1913 they privatized it with the private Federal Reserve Bank.

Woodrow Wilson also assumed office.
All these various elements coalesced to create a massive shift of centralized power to Washington D.C.
It has been a downhill slide into tyranny ever since.
