When was the last time you were in the office?

On a consistent basis, March of 2020.

The program I supported was located in leased space in an office park about 10 minutes from the main CDC campus. During Covid most of the leased spaces were not renewed, so physical office space became something of a premium.

Government employees and contractors who had a reason to be on site were given priority for office space assignments. Most contractors were considered remote, but there was hotel space available in a few places on campus for when we had meetings, etc.

From one contractor to another - you got a 12 year gig?

Yes, I was very lucky.

For a chunk of the time the website I managed ran on a different server set and different CMS than most everything else. The fact that I knew that CMS while most other devs didn't was some built in job security.

I worked for multiple contractors over the 12 years but was in the same position for the program.

Good luck. Being on soft money sucks, you’ll likely be more secure if you land a full-on private sector gig.
