Does the use of Black and White descriptors create more division?

Written media accounts now use "Black" or "White" when describing individuals. In my opinion, it makes it seem like we are on teams or something and creates further division. Why its use supposed to be a good thing? (honest question)

The fastest way to eradicate racism would be to eliminate the race blank from Birth Certificates. If American was used, the identity politics would disappear in a generation.
