You have not heard of an ITIN? Do some looking up.
I am not sure if a recent elder immigrant can or has gotten SS. I have heard some have but couldn't document it.

My wife's grandfather is from Mexico and currently lives there. He worked in the US for 10 years (40 quarters paid into SS). He draws SS of approx. $800/month. He'll fly into the US 2-3xs per year to Texas to visit with other family members and collects his dough! He worked in the US legally.

You dont have to be a citizen to have FICA withdrawn from your paycheck....or to receive the benefits of FICA.
But you do have to have a SSN.....and I think the only non-citizens that can get an SSN are legal permanent residents (green card holders).
You apply for your SSN the same time you are applying for your LPR.
