This is the correct answer. Arguing over the debt ceiling is not going to be what cuts spending.
Trump needs to make the debt ceiling great again
It was once a way to bring about some accountability. As tax paying citizens- we need that accountability. We need a debt ceiling. It needs to be lowered- not raised.
Trump wanted it raised now so it goes on Biden’s record and he won’t have to deal with it since it’s such a hot potato item when it comes up.
He doesn’t want democrats having any leverage on him. Can’t blame him.
Being truly maga means being fiscally responsible. Being fiscally responsible means appreciation of a debt ceiling or other mechanism to control debt. He needs to fight for integrity in spending.

Another day of Roger spending 23 out of 24hrs on a message board. Pathetic.

“Because with a fake debt ceiling it makes tax cuts harder to pass. It makes anything and everything Trump wants to do harder to pass. “
Limit went from 19.5 to 27 trillion during djt.. you got tax cut for the rich and trade wars for that ( trade wars taxed consumers)
Limit went from 27-33 during Biden.. you got the covid rescue act.. inflation (infrastructure )… act and Biden had a full four years of lost revenue from djt rich guy tax relieve.. djt just had 1-2 ..
Djt promised to keep rich guy tax breaks and remove taxes on tips.. ss etc this is a price tag of 9.7 trillion dollars over near future..
He spends our money like a drunken sailor and tends to make sure it goes to corporations which …no they do not invest in technology .. they do stock buy backs to increase value for shareholders and management..
The limit is simply a brake mechanism to make the politicians of all parties think before they spend OUR money.

Oh yes we should definitely take the ideas of a guy who lives alone in a trailer in Alaska living off the government seriously.

I hadn’t looked at it this way before, but you’re right. More often than not it is used to blackmail republicans and get ridiculous things passed.
A more effective reform would be to legislate that bills stand on their own merit.

Its amazing what the little people tell themselves to feel better about their failed existence.

Left-wing populism, also called social populism, is a political ideology that combines left-wing politics with populist rhetoric and themes. Its rhetoric often includes elements of anti-elitism, opposition to the Establishment, and speaking for the "common people".[1] Recurring themes for left-wing populists include economic democracy, social justice, and skepticism of globalization. Socialist theory plays a lesser role than in traditional left-wing ideologies.[2][3]
Criticism of capitalism and globalization is linked to unpopular United States military operations, especially those in the Middle East.[4]

Another lefty talking point. Man, you’re really exposing yourself this morning.

Because when you are maxed out at the bank, they always raise your debt limit.
It's just sound financial practice. Right.
You guys that can't remember the last time the debt ceiling came up (and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that, and the time before that) misunderstand the situation, I think.
I don't care whether they raise it quickly or not (they WILL raise it, the only question is what kind of concessions they are going to get from the other side to do it and how long it will take).
It's not the problem.
All of this stuff has already been voted on and passed by both sides, months and years ago.
THAT'S the problem.
THAT'S what has to change.
And holding out on raising the debt ceiling, trying to use that as leverage against the other side when YOUR side voted for just as much pork BS as they did, is not going to be what ends up really cutting spending in the US.
Raise it quickly, hold out a long time, whatever, I don't care. Because it isn't going to solve the underlying problem.

This is correct, and all that's happening now is that the Republicans are trying to play the same game against the Democrats.
This game is not the solution, even if this time we win. It's another shell game of nonsense that both parties use to create smoke and mirrors.

Way to contradict what you just said a few posts before

So does the Republican leadership. It was during the reign of the Clinton's. Whenever the Rs tried to even reduce the rate of increase in any program or department they were destroyed in the press, by the dim leadership and at the polls. They then gave it up as a campaign issue.
As Franklin rightly feared the citizenry are voting themselves money from the Treasury and it won't stop until the next depression.
