The way migration trends are happening in this country, and with the vast majority of the rural areas that populations are leaving being Republican, I do not see a path for a Democratic majority in the senate barring a colossal political failure by the R's.

The Democrats, at some point in the near future, will try to change the way the Senate represents Americans.

That will be a precursor to secession and that's not hyperbole. Without the Senate, the Constitution wouldn't have been ratified.

Puerto Rican statehood and giving Washington DC 2 Senators are right there for them whenever they have the chance to play them.

They can try, but 3/4 of states have to agree.

They could also break up CA, NY, IL, and PA into smaller states but that would just create several new red states.

If they succeed in stealing the two seats they are trying to steal they may get the majority in 2020 because the Republicans have a lot more contested seats in that cycle.

too bad we cannot just split the country and be done with it, I would move if I ended up in the wrong half

Uphill battle, given the difficulty of a Constitutional Amendment.

As an aside, the Texas Senate once had fixed senatorial districts based upon the counties, rather than districts based upon equal population (as was the case in the Texas House). This gave our rural counties a reasonable voice in State government.

The Feds took that away from us under the Voting Rights Act.
