Definition of "Liberal"

willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas.
2.relating to or denoting a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise.
Similar: tolerant, unprejudiced, unbigoted, broad-minded, open-minded, enlightened
noun
1. a supporter of policies that are socially progressive and promote social welfare.
2.a supporter of a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise.
Other than the part in bold and underline, I don't think the people we call "liberals" really qualify as a liberal. In fact, I would say this seems to define republicans/Trump supporters.
Is this another example of the leftists stealing language to make it what they want it to be?

Stop calling them that and start calling them leftists. Not only is it a bastardization of the true meaning of liberal, but most no longer even resemble old school liberal democrats of the past that you may disagree with but generally thought had no intention of literally destroying the country in hopes of building something they thought was superior.

Leftists/progs aren't Liberals. Glenn Greenwald, Bari Weiss, and Bret Weinstein are liberals. And Republicans outside of the Christian bloc have shifted much more liberal due to the political shift caused by the insane left.

One evening I my dad and I were on the patio drinking whiskey, well my brother who was probably 13 at the time came outside and asked us what liberal was. Well we told him and his response was “oh, well uhm after the way you and dad use it I thought it meant like retarded”.
