Except that its a continuing tradition in Islamic culture endorsed by their religion. The effects being compounded by the same first cousins inter-marrying for the past 50 generations.
The British health services are currently being overwhelmed by the consequences of muslim inbreeding.

Some, that is true. But not the majority. I would argue that there are a larger percentage of people in the USA that deserve nuking than in Iran. Exaggeration, I know, but almost half of our country voted for a woman that planned on nuking russia so war would weaken us and open the door for a chinese war that the chinese would easily win.
Remember they (thanks democrats) had the ability to turn off our ships and aircraft.

Sure, but the rates of cosanguinuity in more developed countries in the Islamic world, like Turkey and Iran, hover around 25%, which is around the same rate for non-Ashkenazi Jewish groups. The rate of cosanguinuity is usually closely correlated with overall development, especially outside of the Gulf region. It is far more common in the region regardless of religion, again due to development. Christians in Lebanon, at one point in recent history, had a cosanguinuity rate of nearly 1 in 5. As groups industrialize and move away from tribal areas to larger urban areas, I expect a downward trend to continue, but only in those places where consistent development occurs.

Try 40%
And that study was in 2004. Those rates will only increase as countries like Iran and Turkey regress towards a more fundamentalist tradition.

The aim of the present study was to determine the current prevalence and patterns of consanguinity in Iran as a means of assessing the associated requirement for genetic counselling services. Consanguinity was studied in 12 ethnic/religious populations, the Persians (Shi'a and Sunni), Kurds (Shi'a and Sunni), Lurs, Azaris, Baluchis, Zabolis, Turkamans, Bakhtiaris, Ghashghais and Arabs. A multi-stage sampling design was used with a representative total sample of 306 343 couples. The overall rate of consanguineous marriage was 38.6% with a mean inbreeding coefficient (alpha) of 0.0185. First cousin marriages (27.9%) were the most common form of consanguineous union, with parallel patrilateral marriage especially favoured. Statistically significant differences were observed in the prevalence and patterns of consanguinity between ethnic/religious populations and geographical regions. There also were significant differences for proportions of consanguineous marriages between Shi'a and Sunni populations within the same ethnic group. The highest rates of consanguineous union were in the least affluent sections of the population.

I was talking about first-cousin marriages. The study supports my contention.
You understand that the rates of consanguinity has decreased in Iran, despite living under the regime for 3 generations? The population in Iran is less religious now than at any point in their history.
Erdogan won't institute any more explicitly religious policies in Turkey than they already have. People think of Turkey as a secular state, but Hanafi Islam has a special place in the state, and has protections for it designed in the constitution. If the trend of abandoning rural areas continues, I expect the 1st-cousin consanguinity rate to drop.
