Bernie is a commie version of Roy Moore on a national level

He has a core group of zealot supporters who show up to the polls to support him come hell or high water, and they carry him to primary victories where voter enthusiasm and turnout is generally low. On the flip side, he has a ceiling like Roy because of how much disdain he generates within his own party. If dem voters react to Bernie in the general election the same way repubs reacted to Roy in this state, it could get really ugly on election night.
