Why do we need so many bases in Europe? shite, fricking Ukraine is fending off Russia! I say drop it down to 2-3 inland bases, a couple of strategically place Navy ports and call it a day. 50K troops in one country is insane! I cannot even start to imagine the amount of money it takes to support that. If I were Trump, I would at least use the economic impact of those troops and families as leverage to get Germany to come to heel.

Just wait until you find out about Japan. It's quite puzzling how we are paying Japan interest to borrow money, so that we can spend that money on military bases to protect Japan.

Nope. That is called "international power politics."

And it is what we SHOULD have done from the beginning. "Quid Pro Quo, Clarice."

The fun part will be watching (after the deal is cut and aid resumes or even increases) all the Trump sycophants (who have been whinging for two years about how the US has been "sacrificing a generation of young Ukrainian men") get 100% onboard in support of Trump's actions.

I get Japan way more than Germany. China is a legit threat. Russia?

For 3 years we were told this was a loan.
Link?

Because I have NEVER been under the impression that the aid to Ukraine was a "loan."

But it SHOULD have been.

I'm not against the bases in Japan. I'm against them not paying for the military protection that we provide them.

It might have made sense to make sure that the Japanese didn't reestablish a military back in the 1940's but modern Japan is about as emasculated as a culture can get. There is no risk of them ever starting another war.

Trump's giving that annoying little rodent a big, fat, American middle finger.

It's not stalemate, Russia grinding forward slowly. Why, 1000 mile border and is very well armed, but their populace that are left are not wanting to fight. Russia does not want all of Ukraine, never has. Also they never said they would take Kevin in 3 days.

On that, we can agree.

But.....there is that whole thing about "national interest". Bases on Japan, Korea, and Guam projects power. If we weren't there, China would have taken Taiwan and all those other places a long time ago. Russia has been trying to take a small part of Ukraine for 3 years. That big, bad boogie man doesn't seem all that tough now, considering. China, on the other hand, has a shite ton of cannon fodder to throw at a conflict. These frickers can build a damn city in a year, while we can't even provide adequate fire protection to an area of multi-millionaires.
