So, if someone just leaves their key fob out in the open, then the criminal doesn't have to B&E in order to steal the car. And without having to steal the car, just unlocking it and starting it up with the key that was left out in the open, any criminal charge can easily be reduced by any liberal DA from grand theft auto to "unauthorized use".

Locking and securing your belongings makes the criminal have to work harder to steal them. As such, it helps the case from a prosecution standpoint because at all times during the process of theft, the thief had to jump through multiple hoops and fully commit to the crime to achieve it.

It doesn't matter what city/government officials tell you, or why. Lock your shite up tight. Period. Make it as much of a nightmare as possible to steal.
