I’m not an economist, but how we are still afloat baffles me.
Because the national debt is a scam. Have you ever wondered who has 40 trillion dollars to loan the richest country in the world? And not only do they loan it to the US, but every country in the world has some form of it.
It's also 100% impossible to pay back. The money is printed out of thin air, meaning it gets its value from the existing currency. This you experience as inflation. However, the interest money itself is never printed. So we owe $105 for every $100 "loaned" etc. In fact, if they stopped printing money the economy would immediately go into a depression because there isn't enough money for people to pay back loans, and there wouldn't be enough money in circulation for a healthy economy, like the Great Depression.
The interest payments however keep getting bigger. That means they have to print up more and more money every year to keep the music going in this economic game of musical chairs. The music stops and many won't find a chair. Because as I said above, it's impossible to pay back the debt.
But the entire thing is a scam. The banks don't have the wealth; they steal the value of that money from you and everyone else. Then they turn around and claim you have to pay it back to them. They do this to smaller countries so they can bankrupt them, then they take over the country's resources as payment.
And most of the wars in the world are really just a matter of who gets to scam everyone. Right now the US forces everyone to use the dollar for buying and selling oil.
There could be an argument made for it helping the economy if the money was spent on actual infrastructure and so forth, but it's mostly used for corruption, payoffs and blowing up countries over seas if they threaten the banking/dollar.
It's pretty insulting considering the government could just print up the money debt free. But then the reason government wasn't given that power directly is because government would inflate the shite out of money. Still, they do that anyway.
Basically we are economic slaves, and the numbers don't really mean a ton. They'll double the debt every 10 years. In 10 years it'll be 80 trillion in debt, you'll talk about the good old days when a cheeseburger was only $15 while you pay $40 for one, and you can only hope your salary has increased enough in that time to pay for it. And that's where the real power comes in - choosing who gets the money. Better be that corporate yes man who gets the loans/contracts, because that's where all the new money goes.
End the Fed and the entire swamp will drain because the Fed is what pays for it all.
