Afghanistan-enough is enough

Just watched story on 60 min. After over a decade, thousands of american lives, and trillions of dollars the country is a bigger shithole now than before. Enough!!!

we lose 20K a year to alcohol related car accidents, yet you're worried about a couple thousand over 10+ years from an all volunteer force. hmmmmm.

Here's how I would have dealt with Afghanistan:
I would have waged a war.
The only rules of engagement for our troops: Stay alive, and kill as many afghans as you can. No quarter. No attempts to distinguish between civilians and Taliban. Tactical nukes. Depopulate the place and make it uninhabitable for a couple of hundred years.
Give all of Islam a reason to think that Allah had his arse kicked by the great Satan.

If we fought WWII style, we could win, but we don’t. Too many bleeding heart liberals and liberal lawyers to fight like we used to. If an American is killed, shell the town he was killed in. If there are combatants in a town trying to kill Americans, firebomb the city until it ceases to exist. If you turn war into a series of self imposed Mr. Nice guy bleeding heart pleasantries, we cannot win. The only reason you fight a war is to kill everyone in that country until they quit or none is left to kill.

Instead of nation building, we should be there to take action in the initial objective. Kill terrorists. We can also use leverage with Pakistan with our aide, as the president is doing, to pressure them in their attempts to harbor these terrorists crossing the border.
We can also build a closer relationship to India, whom Pakistan despises, making them further susceptible to our wishes.

Yeah a volunteer force that didn't think they were signing up to be the Oil Cops of Western Civ.
There's a difference between a soldier who went to West Point and how America treats them - like Mercs.

Agreed. We've been there 10 years, we could've leveled that shithole multiple times by now. Kill everyone and walk away.

So, in response to all the wrong answers in this thread, the best way to win in Afghanistan is to remove the Taliban leadership and then leave. It is not our responsibility to do anything other than defeat our enemies. A leadership vacuum will be created afterwards. Let them sort it out.
