They'll find a way. Organized Crime will fill the void ... just as they did during Prohibition.

Stats be damned, taxes and laws making it harder for people to smoke don't work because of the black market.....

That there are conservatives in this thread supporting higher taxes is insane.

It just proves that many conservatives only care about lower taxes and smaller government when it affects them personally. I've seen this sentiment many times over the years. Most conservatives aren't principled, they're just self-serving.

No one cares about freedom for the sake of freedom anymore. If cigarettes were banned, only smokers would complain. If hunting, only hunters. The freedom loving American who thinks we should be able to do what we want, like smoking cigarettes, just because this is America is a thing of the past.

And you're not really free if you have to pay a premium to exercise that "freedom."

Always grabbing money no matter the excuse, but they never spend it on treatments for those they took it from.

Reality is that organized crime loves the opportunity to take more of the untaxed tobacco market.

I am whole-heartedly against taxes to fund non-governmental agencies. I am even more against most of what our government spends money on

The campaign called on state legislatures to raise taxes on cigarette packs by $1.50 per pack. Advocates said this increase would generate $6 billion in new revenue to invest in programs that decrease tobacco use across the country.

I find this statement ignorant. Why tax something to death when you want someone to stop smoking anyway that would reduce revenues as people stop smoking.

You should be encouraging people to smoke to keep the money flowing in as it funds government pet projects like Kidmed and other things in government.
