On the way home with 80 mule trout. Would have been pushing a hundred but had a minor/major incident and decided to leave.

Crewboat came in too fast to Belle Pass. Threw a ten foot wake which nearly knocked us all out of the boat and left us standing in a foot and a half of water.

ETA: I have no doubt that had a smaller aluminum bass boat or center console been out there that they would have been sunk.

Were you actually fishing in the pass?

Fishing the eastern side. In front of the beach. Not in the pass.

What y'all cought them on? Did you get the name of the boat that beached you? No matter were you are at, you are responsable for your wake. Even in the middle of the gulf.

Congrats on the catch, some boat pilots just need a good foot in there arse. Glad no one was hurt or had to swim.
I'm hoping to get on some kind of fish soon.

Okay, just getting finished unloading and cleaning up. The fish are definately on the beaches and the bite is furious at first light till about 8:30-9:00. It was the same as last week. They weren't too picky in the morning and hit just about anything. The fish were feeding on shrimp. I would recommend at least one rig with a double rig and another with a suspending type mirrolure which I was catching bigger fish on. Topwater was also working at first light.

We tried out an Alabama rig and caught 4 keeper trout at one time on the first cast. Had a 5th but whatever it was straightened out the hook. My brother in law was using a homemade one with too light of hooks which he will correct before the next trip.

The bite died until the tide started moving good again around 1:30. This time they were picky. They weren't feeding on shrimp but bait fish in the water. They wouldn't touch popping corks in the evening and wanted swimming crankbaits. Something with white on it.

Most all of the fish were caught within a hundred yards of the beach on the East side of the Belle Pass rocks. Would have to move occasionally as the schools swapped from the first and second sandbars. The water was a beautiful clear blue green on the East side of Belle Pass.

Hope this helps.

Lol, maybe some people shouldn't be in a major commercial pass in an aluminum boat. And I like how a solid 2-3 ft crew boat wake is a 10 footer now.

That's Bull Shite, Brah! Big boats got no more rights than anybody else. You're responsible for your wake.

I'm not saying that the large commercial boats shouldn't show consideration for us recreation fishers, but if I take a canoe out in the Miss River I'm not going to complain about the crew boat traffic.

The only point I was trying to make is if you are taking a boat that is ill equipped for the area you are fishing, don't bitch about your boat being ill equipped.

If you would read right, they were in a fiberglass bay boat. Waves must have been pretty high to get over a gunnel. I know enough boat pilots to say he knows he is in a recreational fishing area and being a dick.

Dude, really? I was in a 21 ft fiberglass bay boat. Look this wasn't my first rodeo for fishing that area. Everyone who does gets accustomed (or should) to the constant ship traffic in/out of the Pass.

On calm days one will often see smaller aluminum boats and the like. There was an old man in little alumacraft with a 40 yammie out there that morning. Fortunately he wasn't there when we got hit.

Also there was another larger aluminum center console out there that morning when a significant crew boat wake came through. Now this was not even as big as the one that his us later on but it was still pretty big. It knocked a guy out of the aluminum boat and beached their boat. They had to get another boatt to tie off to them and 3-4 of them got out and luckily were able to walk the boat back out with the assistance of another boat. And that wave didn't give us the slightest bit of trouble, just a big swell.
