Who has the premier SEC Program & Who is overrated?

A look at the preseason and final results of the AP Poll over the past 4 years yields these results ... I chose the last four years as we have had these 4 champions ... Albeit Auburn is still under NCAA investigation and may have to give back their crystal ... or maybe not ... I threw in Arkansas just for "shits and grins" as they are to be generally deemed insignificant when we are considering who swings the biggest stick in the SEC
[/b]
Av. Preseason Rank & Final ranking
1. Flor 4.0 --> 12.0 =======Overrated often
2. LSU 15.0 --> 12.2 =======Beats expectations
3. Bama 17.0 --> 13.0 ======Beats expectations
4. Aub 21.25 --> 21.5 =====Under NCAA invest.
5. Ark 27.0 ----> 29.25 ====Insignificant results
Obviously, Florida is the most loved with an average preseason ranking of 4, but is the most overrated with a final average ranking of # 12 ... failing to meet preseason expectations
However, Florida, LSU and Alabama all finish with an average season ranking between 12 & 13, so it's these three programs who can walk the walk and talk the talk.
LSU and Alabama are the only SEC teams to beat expectations over the past four years
What will be settled this year in Tuscaloosa?
Nothing really, when you look at the long picture!
If we go back to 2000, here are the results ... it's an LSU #1 & Florida # 2 show:
Finishes since 2000 (NR = out of Top 25 = Use 30 as a constant score for all values and programs)
1. LSU = 22 + 07 + NR + 02 + 16 + 06 + 03 + 01 + NR + 17 + 08 = 12.9 Av.
Note: 2* National Championships (*BCS Crystals), 6 Top 10 finishes and an average finish of 12.9
2. Flor = 10 + 03 + NR + 24 + NR + 12 + 01 + 13 + 01 + 03 + NR = 14.2 Av.
Note: 2 National Championships, 5 Top 10 finishes and an average finish of 14.2
3. Aub = 18 + NR + 14 + NR + 02 + 14 + 09 + 15 + NR + NR + 01 = 17.5 Av.
Note: 1 National Championship*, 3 Top 10 finishes average finish of 17.5 (*Under NCAA Investigation for 2010 season and also noted USC vacation of title for 2004 when Auburn went undefeated)
4. Bama = NR + NR + 11 + NR + NR + 08 + NR + NR + 06 + 01 + 10 = 19.6 Av.
Note: 1 National Championship, 4 Top 10 finishes average finish of 19.6 (Probation was noted)
5. Ark ... ALL NRs except 2006 (15) & 2010 (12)
What has Arkansas done? Nothing really ... You have to go back to 1982 to see a Top 10 finish!

The thread title and the data provide do not match.
Because in your little study LSU and Bama average a higher poll rating at the end of the year than the beginning it makes them the premier SEC Programs?

that's not true ... Florida's stats are there for all to see ... a 12.0 average ... That's the best over the past 4 years!
But over the past decade ... it's LSU ahead of UF

Where the teams start is irrelevant. It's where they finish. UF finishes higher than everyone else, so they are the best over the last 4 yrs.

Exactly ... They have an average ranking finish of 12.0 versus 12.2 for LSU and 13.0 for Ala

That's why you should put hardly any stock into preseason polls, and if you do, you are a dumb arse.

I don't think a four year span is an adequate period of time to determine who is 'premier.'
Prior to 1990, UF's track record was pitiful. Same with LSU prior to 2000. Bama and AU have had their periods of ups and downs throughout their respective histories.
I'd say...go with the entire history. (And I know what's coming. )

And we can count the NCs that Bear Bryant bought ...
However, history does repeat itself ... It's just a matter of time before the Alabama programs (AU & UA) both get caught again ... They're too GD dumb to stop cheating
Crystals ... my biotch ... and remember WHERE you are ... in an LSU Forum

30 years is the standard that I like. Bama was a monster under bear, no one else was even close.
Lifetime it is Bama, no doubt.
Last 30 years you have Florida, LSU, Auburn and Bama.
