We are all looking forward to the 2011 football season, and I, for one, do not believe that it is delusional to hope to compete for SEC and BCS Championship.

I think that the Tigers are well stocked at the skill positions. To me, that includes LBs and kicking game specialists. I don’t want to defend that opinion in this post, because it will be too long as it is.

To me, the worry is along the Lines! Don’t get me wrong. I think the starters, with the possible exception of DT, look to be exceptional. What worries me is depth! Of the two lines, I think that developing depth at the DT position is the most critical.

I think that many Tiger fans are expecting Michael Brockers and Anthony Johnson to be real stars in the middle of that D-line. I certainly hope so, but that is asking a lot of a Sophomore and a true Freshman, no matter how talented. Certainly, SEC experience is important, and only Brockers, of the two, has that. He has tremendous talent, but I don’t think he was dominant last season. The Tigers could use a dominant DT to help them win an SEC Championship. I know that Chavis is high on both Brokers and Freak.

At the beginning of the year, I don’t even expect Freak Johnson to start. I believe Josh Downs starts the game against Oregon. I see playing time in that game also going to Bennie Logan and Dennis Johnson, as well as the Freak. Ego Ferguson is a question mark to me. I hope to hear good things about him in August. I have seen his name mentioned as a possible DE, but I hope he can contribute significantly at DT. I think the Tigers are solid and deep at DE.

What is the story with Chris Davenport? I have seen reports that he will move to the O-line. He’s been around a couple of years and has disappointed a lot of us who wished him to become a solid force at DT.

I also hope to see marked improvement from Downs, Logan and D Johnson. It would be great to see quick development in Mickey Johnson. Certainly, the Tigers could use the depth.

The Tiger schedule is brutal this season. There will be 7 games against top 25 talent, and we all know how important it will be to manage to get through Oregon, Miss St, WVU without dropping one. Those three are very challenging games, IMHO, and to expect to get through them without any injuries on the Tiger interior lines seems like wishful thinking.

I’ll save my OL concerns for another post. Now….let the vitriol spew!!....Oh, I mean I welcome your comments and criticisms.

We are young but extremely talented..I think it will be Brockers and Downs/Logan at teh DT spot with a bit of A.Johnson

I look forward to good things this season..we are obviously more talented at DE but the young DT's should improve

I think our DT's will be servicable this year. We won't have a glenn dorsey or nick fairley, but our DT's shouldn't be a weakness.

For my own selfish reason's, being friends with his younger brother, i hope Dennis Johnson steps up and becomes a monster this fall

Don't feel selfish about that! Dennis Johnson has been developing right along, and we need him to have a great year! I certainly expect to see him improve and play well! He's a senior, and the Tigers could use the leadership!

He played significant minutes last year. It's his time to blossom!

Davenport's move to O-line may well be permanent. Right now, he seems to be a wasted scholarship. I don't expect him to letter this year. It would not surprise me to see him transfer before August. I believe he must be thinking about it.

Many times when a player is moved, it could be a couple things. More playing time for him, depth needed at that position, they feel good with the depth they have at that position. To have 6 players(To add, those 6 guys ended the year with right at 150 tackles) on the line that started a least one game last year, I'll look at the depth being good. Then you bring in a kid early, he goes through spring practice. I think we will be ok at these positions.

I hope your concern isn't with the OL or DE. LSU is deep; in terms of both talent and experience on the entire OL and at DE.

Regarding DT, I think your concerns are valid but I think you could see a breakout transition period in Brockers career next season like we saw in the careers of Nevis, etc. Also, Freak will be ready. Chavis claims he is playing both physically and mentally like a 3rd year player. Downs and Logan complete a solid 2 deep rotation. Starters don't matter to me. LSU will rotate. Add to that 2 deep the continued development and improvements of Dennis Johnson and blue chip stud Ego Ferguson and I think LSU is just fine at DT. Don't forget as well both Ego and Lavar Edward are hybrid linemen that can rotate at DE/DT.

If Freak comes in and dominates the SEC as a true Freshman, then he deserves that name "FREAK".

With the DE/DT positions, only D. Johnson and Adams are Sr's. Everyone else are Jrs. So. and Freshmen. Lots of young guys there......

I'll give this post one bump. It got pushed back a couple of pages when the board went into meltdown about the baseball team's exclusion from the NCAA playoffs.

I am disappointed about that also.

do not share your concern. I think this overall crop of DT's is exceptional talent-wise. QB and LB (despite the upper classmen we will start) and kicking are my only concerns.
