That actually is a pretty good analogy.
Losing Turg certainly isn't a program-killer. Then again, this late in the game and for a program that isn't really sexy for prospective coaches, I'm not sure they have the ability to upgrade at the moment.

That sounds like NC State fan reactions after Sendek left. Only NCSU actually has a basketball history that would suggest that they might be able to do better. There is no way in hell that A&M will upgrade their coaching position and that guy will feel like a moron in 3 years when they miss the NIT.

This will be a very telling hire for A&M.
If Bill Byrne goes the mid-major route again (signing the Wichita State coach, for example), we'll know that he's an ROI guy and doesn't want to take risks.
I'd argue that spending more for a proven coach with Texas ties (like Buzz Williams) is actually LESS risky, dollar-per-dollar
