World's Largest Army.....

The world's largest army... America 's hunters! I had never thought about this....
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

* There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin . Allow me to restate that number.
* Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became *the eighth largest army in the world.
* More men under arms than in Iran .

* More than in France and Germany combined.
* These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.
* That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home.

* Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.
* The point?
* America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.
* Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

*************************************************

* That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed. Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

While I do agree with the private army and US hunters. I often wonder how formidable of a army this would be. If a trained battalion / Platoon / regiment / enteried your neighborhood how long would you make it, even if every body on in your neighboorhood owned a gun. There is only so much a bolt action 30-06 can do when fitting against 150 guys with armored vechiles...heavy machine guns..Full Auto Weapons...and artillary.

I wonder if the "idea" of an Army of Hunters is more of a deterrent than the actually Army of Hunters itself.

Yea but think of all the casualties they would substain from snipers and guerilla tactics.

on the flipside. Most hunters are pretty good long distance shots. How long do you think an invading army would last under sniper fire during their entire invasion? Look at the damage some organized hunters could do with the experience they've got.

You wouldn't be able to take them head on. Shoot the one with the highest rank then disappear. An experienced hunter is more than likely a better shot than the average enlisted man that may have never held a weapon before boot camp.

I think the invading Army would face what we are facing now fighting overseas....

Fighting on someones home turf and fighting a people defending their Home Land...

Also most of the hunters I know don't have a ton of ammo laying around for their hunting rifles. I only have 2 boxes of 270 and 2 boxes of 7mag sitting in the safe.

This and the speed of attack. They will have you flanked in no time flat in the dead of night.

Actually, I have two good friends that joined the marine corp. They went in as infantry and both joined armored recon. We were discussing firearms training recently, and they both said the military prefers recruits with little to no experience shooting a rifle, so they don't have to spend time breaking what most likely is considered to be improper technique.

But we are not talking about a 30-06. You guys have the scale all wrong. No way for there to be 150 guys of invaders to a 30-06. The numbers would be so staggered in favor of the home team it's not even funny.

And if you'll research. History's best snipers had a hunting background.

Not to mention the millions of civilians that own much more fire power than a .30-06 bolt gun.

This guy would disagree about what can be accomplished by a highly motivated individual with a bolt action rifle.

Simo Häyhä

Using a modified Mosin-Nagant in the Winter War, he has the highest recorded number (505) of confirmed sniper kills in any major war
