I was just notified I was selected for a rice field hunt for the first week of the season. Anyone hunted the rice fields in the past and can provide any incite into success rates? I have always heard the rice was hit or miss but I am hoping we will have a better chance early in the year.

Hunted the rice 2 years ago and it was slow for everybody, we did the best with a few ducks and a couple of specklebellys. Not sure how it was last year, but my buddy killed a bunch on the marsh hunt.

Highly weather dependent but can be good, have had some solid hunts there over the years but been a while since my last one.

Be ready to tighten up the blind cover, maybe move their decoys around a bit for wind, move speck dekes per wind direction, etc. If you want a spinner, bring your own. We've never brought anything extra but did usually brush up a good bit more. good luck

Yeah, I was also selected for the first day on the Marsh hunt. I am really pumped for that one and have already paid. Just trying to decide if I will book the rice because I have heard mixed reviews.

In that case you should back out so I can have a shot

Hunted it a few times. We shot a few fly by ducks real early. Most groups scratch. They pick u up by 830-9 so you miss most the geese. Its a ok experience but don't expect to shoot much if anything

So pretty much the same as duck hunting anywhere in the state over the last couple years.

Really, that is what I have been hearing and what I was afraid of. I am lucky enough to have some other options lined up for the first couple of weeks of the season that I am most likely going to throw this one back so someone else can take it. I have put in for both lotteries multiple years without drawing so I was amazed at this. I am thinking they must have had a lot fewer people entering with the duck hunting be down.

Got a buddy who drew the Bayou Pierre hunt we are probably going to go. Anybody know anything about that hunt?
