I'm talking about 2 years of pretty hard driving without any major failures ($800 or greater repair bill)

A 1994 chevrolet Z71
-6" lift
-33" mud tires (brand new)
-138k miles currently
-20k miles on the motor (350)
-3.73 gears
-auto tranny
-other various bolt-on mods

or...

A 2004 Ford F-250 4x4 6.0 diesel
-186k miles
-6 spd manual
-86k miles on clutch
-6 spd manual
-all of the 6.0 problems recently addressed
-new ac compressor
-new front hubs
- 1/2 life on tires

I need help settling this friendly debate...

TIA

ETA: The chevrolet had the life of being a camp truck. Mud and all that kinda shite. Recently became the victim of plenty of miles in traffic.

The ford was used to haul oak logs on the highway (usually 12-15k lbs) occasionally.

ETA2: The ABS light is on in the ford. No clue what's wrong with it.

In reality they probably both will.

the new 350 motor is a big plus on the chevy....

what issues have been addressed on the 6.0

I am going to go chevy for lower maintance costs over all.

Comfort and look the ford is the winner.

I'm not sure. I'm no 6.0 expert. I THINK it has been:

EGR cooler (deleted maybe??????)

New ECU, FICM, wastegate, and that's all that I can remember off the top of my head.

Not this one . This particular ford has a 2x12 for a tailgate, rhino lined rocker panels, scratches and dents, no knob on the shifter, and (I think) an ambulance suspension package.

Yeah the EGR is a common problem as well as head bolts....

has it ever had a programmer or chip? These are the 6.0 that usually have the most issues...

Negative

I don't know if the head studs were changed or not. Wasn't there a recall on them?

No I don't think so.

Was the ERG replaced because it failed? Did he have a coolant issue? Turbo Issue because of it?

Wasn't the 6.0 Diesel the one that had all kinds of problems?

If so, I'd say the Chevy. The 350 is a pretty reliable motor, and there are plenty of parts out there for it for cheap...and most mechanics will have them in stock and know the truck well because of how common the motor/truck is. Plus you could probably swap in a newer Vortec motor in that Chevy for around $800 should anything go terribly wrong...

Ford had some major problems with the 6.0 Car fax is your friend. My two cents. I have an 03 w/the 7.3.

I'm not gonna buy the truck. I was just having a little debate with a buddy over which one would hold up longer.

Had a 94 chevy z71. Sold it. Dumbest thing I ever did. Cheap as shite to maintain. Lots of torque . Reliable.

I would imagine the Ford is going to need some new tires in less than 50,000 miles if they have half tread left and that will have to cost you at least 800 dollars

There is a recall on the booster line, along with the Air bag system. Had both replaced on my 2005.
