LSUballs, the difference is, up in NELA where you are, everyone farms, so the damn deer have plenty to eat like massive soybean fields.

In the feliciana's no one farms anymore and i bet i can count on 2 hands the dove fields in the parish, prob one hand.

We simply cant grow sunflowers for doves as the damn deer kill them, same with soybeans. I have access to a large seed drill and have tried it all for doves, the deer will not let beans or sunflowers grow, therefore leaving us to corn, milo or millet.

I have found the best for our 5 acre field is half millet and half milo. (dont have a corn planter) Bushog the milo a month before the season and torch the millet 2 weeks before. Of course our field is only 5 yrs old and we dont do near as well as where Feliciana hunts, but we get more and more each year and have left with sore shoulders the last 2 years

ETA : where i live in alabama there is alot of farming. Over here, the doves will walk thru cut corn or sunflowers for the damn cut peanuts.

I hear you. I can't plant sunflowers in the patch behind my house with a planter because the deer walk down the row and eat every damn plant. I have to broadcast them and plant heavy to compensate for what the deer are going to eat. I'm sure where Feliciana hunts it's a different deal than up here. Around here where there is lots of Ag it goes like this in order of effectiveness:

Sunflowers
Wheat

Millet

Corn
Milo

Dove hunting is super serius deal up here and all combinations of the above have been tried. Hell, my bro-in-law carries the handle "the dove Nazi".
