Oh really???
That's news to me. I'll have to look into that.
The bolt body is just a tube. The locking lugs are secured to the bolt body with a pin and the handle is just pressed in to the tube and (hopefully) silver soldered into the tube. So, if the pin holding the lugs to the body breaks or is missing, then the bolt body can be turned but the lugs won't engage. When it is fired in that condition, the bolt comes straight back into your face. Or, the handle may come loose and turn inside the bolt body without ever actually turning the body or the lugs and the same thing can happen.
The Savage is built the same way, but it seems to be designed a little better to more or less absolutely preclude anything like that happening even if the rifle is absolutely abused.

Well that's pretty damn terrible. Not sure how one decides to design a rifle where the handle and locking lugs are not connected in some way by a solid piece of metal.
Thanks for lowering the hell out of my opinion of that rifle. I was thinking about getting one

Kinda late to this thread, but if you are near Birmingham, you can swing by Mark's Outdoors and pick up a Ruger American 30-06, 308, 270, 243
$329.
Or go ahead and spend 499 for a TC Dimension
308, 7mag, 223, 7mm-08,270, 22-250, 30-06

Mossberg would be fine, except for its propensity to send the bolt back through the eye of the user. There have been at least five or six of that happening since it has hit the market.
Hawgon,
Could you share that link w/ us? As I mentioned earlier, I also got a Marlin bolt action. I'd like to know if there's a potential problem w/ mine. I couldn't find the info on my brief search of the 'net and the Marlin Owners Forum.
