Same. Probably around 63/64. Did have the opportunity to learn to use a bait cast reel a few years later off my uncles wharf at Big Lake with one of my older cousins coaching. old braided line was unforgiving.

It was some collapsable one that fit in a little bag.

The first time i got to use it my dad caught my line in the trolling motor and snapped the pole in half. I think he taped it back after to fix it or something.

Shakespeare rod and reel combo. First time out in a john boat, hit a stump and me and the combo went overboard. Never recovered it. Then the trusty zeb 202, 404 and 33, and finally upgraded to the garcia closed face, can't remember but my brother had a red cover, mine was a blueish green. Then upgraded to the ambassadors, shimano's and such.
