I used to trap and sell them when I was young...the best eating turtles seems to be soft shell, snapper, and alligator snappers...

however, the buyer would take all of the striped head I could get as well...just wouldn't pay much for them...

Loggerheads = Alligator snapping turtles.

There is a common snapper and an alligator snapper.

When I wrote that, I wasn't just exactly sure if they (loggerheads and alligator snapping turtles) were one in the same. I know they look a little different.

So, for those in the know, is that the deal? One is a common snapping turtle (loggerhead) and one is an alligator snapping turtle (the ones that have the "rougher" looking shell on their backs, with all the knobs/points/gnarly stuff on them)?

Actully the Cajuns didn't eat crawfish until the 1940s.

Common snapper has a smooth shell. The alligator snapper has three rows. You can tell male/female by how far back- or not- the poot shoot is, we'll say.

Also, the underneath has a curved shell on the male. It's so he can get close to her when he boinks her.
