What type of refrigerant is in my truck's AC? (funny story within...)

1994 chevrolet K1500
All the stickers under the hood are worn away and illegible.
TIA
EDIT: Semi-funny fail story within...
Ok now we shall turn this into a general AC service question/laugh at downshift's dumb arse thread. My truck is low on freon. The line from the compressor to the accumulator has frost on it and that other line (not sure what you call it) is hot. I know there shouldn't be frost on the line and they should both be about the same temperature.
So I remembered seeing these cans of freon at autozone that had the line and gauge already on them. So methinks what the hell, I'll buy one and see if that's enough to get it right (I don't have a manifold to check it the right way).
So I buy this $30 can of shite and get after it. Read the directions on the can...
Now, to your average dumbass, this says turn counter-clockwise to stop charging. Well obviously this is not how it works, because this is a freon can. But dumb old downshift didn't think about it before he turned the valve...
So here I am shaking this can of freon for a little while (my system was at about 15 PSI when I started) when I decide to stop it. Start turning the valve counter-clockwise and the shite is steady pumping. So now all I can see is my entire AC system exploding in my face if I don't quit dumping freon into it, so I unhook the valve...
Well now I am holding an INCREDIBLY cold can of freon that is spraying liquid freon all over the brick wall of the house while I'm turning the valve as fast as I can every direction and I can't stop the shite. Sprayed my poor dog with liquid R134a, sprayed my brother's fishing rod, sprayed my pants leg (hand is now frozen to the bottle), sprayed the side of my truck (I am litteraly running around on my driveway using lots of explicit language), and a few other things.
So at this point I finally chill the frick out and remember how those valves work, crank it all the way down and get it closed just in time to have almost no freon left in the can.
Now I have a nice almost completely empty $30 can of freon stuck to my hand, a frosted bloodhound, and 20psi instead of 15 on the low side. What a great evening.

So do I, but I don't know if it's been converted to 134a or not and idk how to tell

im second guessing myself, I think 1994 and on is 134a
Posted on 5/16/12 at 6:55 pm to HeadBusta4LSU
ALL 95's are 134a
From what I can find on the interwebs some 94's were R-12 and some were 134a, but I can't see how you find that out. There's stickers on the compressor, but they are shot.

im pretty sure the fittings are different for each freon, the guys at auto zone should know. I have a 97 sierra and I have to refill about 3 times a summer

sweettttttttt
I can figure it out then. I hope my boss still has some of those 30lb bottles of R-12 laying around

Look for an a/c line under the hood with a schraeder valve fitting(same as a tire valve stem). If the valve is the same diameter as a tire valve stem it's R-12. If it's about double the size then it's R-134.

thats what I thought too

I'm not gonna just run outside and juice it full of R-12. I'm going to check it tomorrow and I'm trying to figure out what pressure it's supposed to be at.
Actually, it might be the same pressure. Didn't even look that part up yet.
Maybe it says on the fittings what it's full of?

If it has been converted from 12 to 134a the valve will be the original smaller size with a larger adapter valve screwed on top of it.

I'm sure it's been converted. The truck is a 94 year model but was actually built in 93 I think, so I'm sure it came with R-12.
ETA: I don't really give a damn though
I have a spare, brand spanking new AC Delco AC compressor sitting in the shed if it comes down to it.

That poor dog did not like that shite at all. She has frost on her arse

Poor downshift. Thanks for the laugh. Sorry it's at your expense
Posted on 5/16/12 at 9:51 pm to Flair Chops
It was honestly worth $30
I laughed my arse off when it was all over. I seriously had a frosted bloodhound and a can of freon frozen to my hand.
