Any chance we get some extra days added by the Feds since the Gulf Snapper grounds have been more like something off a bad day on the Deadliest Catch set? Seems to me we caught a break once before under similar conditions

No doubt last saturday we went out in 5-6s with a few 8s mixed in. F'n crazy, but we got our 10 plus 1 mangrove.

ETA: But to answer your question, they won't I wouldn't hold your breath. We'll catch less than our 1/4 million quota and they'll still say we caught too many.

it's because the population is so low.

I mean I know what they don't like about the snapper population. Some NOAA guys that came to a conference we were having for an undergraduate capstone class told me that they want the average age of the snapper to be a little older. They want more 4-5 year old fish, because obviously you produce exponentially more eggs for how much older they get.

I guess if the commercials are affected enough they can't get their (under reported) quota then it's possible we'd get the season extended. How often do we get several straight weeks of 15-20 mph winds in June?

It's rough today. Surprisingly I've seen one boat today. Looked like a Hatteras or similar boat trolling by.

Guess some people have boats capable of taking on most any seas. I'm not there.

So, how rough is it? Forecast to get even worse....

Bumped my own thread, since I asked first.

Seriously, another entire week wiped out, along with the weekends on both sides, pretty much on the entire GOM. Those Federal fricktards need to give us the rest of July, better yet, reopen for the month of October.

That's what I'm wondering, fin. Got a charter out of Venice next weekend and it's not looking good I guess.

I've been watching this (worried about coastal flooding/storm surge nailing my camp on the Tickfaw):

It's Gonna Suck

Yeah, I have my second invite to bring my boat down for a free weekend at a really nice camp in Point Fourchon. Last one, 3 weeks ago, the winds were 15-20 all weekend and raining, so we bagged it, this looks like more of the same.

One thing about it. I have caught the crap out of bottomfish after storms in the past, so maybe this will relocate some grouper into my range. I remember catching a couple of small grouper and mangroves at the Belle Pass jetties after a storm.
