Anyone been on the Reds and Sheepshead? Seems like the inshore fishing has been on fire lately. Anyone got some inside intel?

I mean--what are you looking for?
The Reds have been on fire from Grand Pass, to Joseph Bayou to Loomis all the way to the end of octave for nearly a month now.
They're not in the passes; they are on the fringe cane lines along the gulf and in the bays that open into the gulf.
All you need is dead shrimp and a popping cork.
Sheephead are on the wellheads in east bay. dead shrimp and popping cork or just free lined works well.
Be careful if you go this weekend, they are moving the dredge saturday morning and river is closed from 8am-6pm between 0-2 mile marker. (there is a path for smaller vessels you just need to radio the boats).

FWIW: we caught 85 Reds Saturday before 11 and 26 Sunday before 9.
Other buddies smoked the sheephead on the rigs (one group caught 112 yesterday morning).
Got to go to know.

The skinning tables were full of them this weekend.
Lots of people (me included) agree that Sheephead are one of the best eating fish in LA marshes--if you take the time to learn how to skin them correctly.

Likely no one, who would keep that many? They aren't very difficult to clean though. I clean a redfish the same way I do sheeps. Cut around the rib cage on both fish, it never leaves the carcass.

buddy limits his clients to 20 sheephead per person but inadvertently missed counting a few. I can promise you every one of them got cleaned.
Same story with multiple boats in Venice right now--as the sheephead arer stacked up and people from all over are taking advantage to fill freezers. Talked with a group Saturday that pulled their boat from North Arkansas to Venice just to catch Sheephead.
