Urea application to rye grass pastures

First time using the stuff. Reading up on it and it seems you want to apply it when it’s warm and dry, which differs from ammonia nitrate where you would apply prior to a rain.
Also trying to find the ideal period of time to keep livestock off of pasture after application.

You broadcasting granular or spraying? Granular they till in when dry to minimize N loss thru conversion to free ammonia when it gets wet.
ETA I use spray before rain.

Granular.
From what I’ve read, that wet conditions slow down the process

You’ll need a rain to incorporate it, but it will burn the grass if you put it on wet grass.

Also, I don’t think it necessarily has to be warm. It’s flown onto millions of acres of wheat when it’s cold, but I’d at least shoot for sunny and dry.

I was a little late getting my rye grass planted and just broadcasted it on clipped pasture. Gonna wait to get a good frost and kill the native grass back before I put any nitrogen down. Was just curious how it differs from ammonia nitrate

Did you put your urea out and how did it react? I'm about to put some out this weekend before the rain (I know I'm late, but I haven't needed it yet). It's my understanding that in cooler temperatures the atmospheric leaching is reduced. I could also put ammonia nitrate out, but I think urea doesn't lower the pH as much. Did your application work well? TIA.
