This is a crazy one, but:

I was sitting in a ladder stand this morning waiting for some antlers. Had a group of 16-17 turkeys pass by me on their way up to a large field. No big deal. About an hour or so later I could hear them working their way back down my direction off to my left in the woods. Didn't pay that close of attention since I'd been seeing/hearing them already all morning. Then I heard the sound of running. I look up and I get a flash of two flags running off through the trees (didn't see horns so I assume they were does). On their heels was a turkey running after them. At first I thought maybe a coyote was after them but I didn't see anything behind the bird. Plus, none of the other birds scattered and I would have seen them running and flapping if a predator had come after them. In fact, in another minute or two the rest of the gang came meandering along.

My question - would a gobbler chase off deer if he thought they got too close to his flock? I've seen turkey and deer together in the same field or plot plenty of times and they never seemed to pay each other much mind, much less be alerted. But this darn sure looked like it was after those two deer.

Wildlife experts, have y'all ever seen this?

I’ve seen it several times. It seems to be what the disposition of the turkey is that day.
We have one big food plot on a gas line. Very hilly terrain northward. I’ve seen the turkeys start at the top of the hill, 500 yards away. work their way down the hill to about 200 yards and take flight. tWhen they arrive to the bottom, they chased every single deer off the field. Like a BOSS!
Never seen a deer chase a turkey off any field.

Multiple times, both gobblers and hens.

Get a big group, and they get brave; will run most things off, especially deer

Never seen that before. Hopefully, he's still that aggressive in March or April when I throw a decoy out in the plot and hit the box call.

Not sure about its reasoning but when I was a kid one tried to jump through the driver side window of my dad's Ram Charger just because we were driving down "his" dirt road. I wouldn't be surprised at a turkey getting aggressive with anything since seeing that.

In the Sacramento suburbs we have an office and one day a turkey came out of nowhere and attacked two different employees as they were driving into the parking lot. Got it all on video. Turkeys are crazy. One guy couldn't even get out of his car, drives off. Decides to come back in 30 minutes later. Turkey attacks again. Employee says frick it I guess I'm not going to work today. Drives off.

I had a spot on one of our fields two years ago that had a very very aggressive tom that I actually saw chase a young deer. We have better turkey than deer so when I would get bored on the stand I would call him, would come aggressively most every time, was very very territorial. Was a big old 3-5 year old dominant bird. I thought this is first bird for turkey season.

So since I know his territory, and can narrow his roosting trees to a few areas i set up between them. I heard a few hens at daylight starting calling and several toms lit up, eventually I had my bird and he was coming in hot. when he got about 100 yards or so boom, he was dead. Killed by some first time hunter from neighboring club that just happened to be sitting in perfect spot for me to call the bird right to him. Pure beginners luck. They didn’t even have any turkey hunters the previous years.

So yeah they can chase deer
