Is Tunica Hills WMA the same thing as Tunica Falls a.k.a. Clark Creek Natural Area? Just separated by the state line? What's the difference? Which one has the waterfalls with a day hike?

I went several times during scouts to the one with waterfalls, and I took a day trip with some friends freshmen year of college and would like to go back with some friends now. All of my previous trips I went with someone else who drove there and such.

Anyone ever been during the winter months?

Here's some photos I took a few years back:

I would not go hiking in a WMA during deer season

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm not sure what area has the waterfalls and if that area allows hunting? It's a pretty friendly hike along a boardwalk for part of it (I've seen old folks doing it), but you do have to walk through the creeks to get to some of the falls. I also have seen mt. bikers in the area as well.

and, LSUFan3434, thanks. I have a friend who hasn't ever seen a waterfall, and I told her I'd bring her out there when the weather is nicer.

Our camp is near there. The falls are up near Pond, MS (near the state line); the WMA is I think about 15 miles west (closer to Angola) and is not where the falls are located.

I've only hiked the falls area a couple of times, but the creeks near our property usually seem pretty dry during the winter.

Exactly.

What you are looking for is on the Mississippi side. It is not near the WMA. Not sure if it is worth the hike during the winter.

Good luck with the chica.

Tunica Hills WMA is in LA
Clark Creek Natural Area is in MS and is the one with the waterfalls

They are close but not close enough for you to worry about hunters shooting you while trying to hike. I used to hunt nearby and have hiked the hills in both the summer and winter. It's been pretty dry lately so the waterfalls may not be kicking right now, but would probably still be a fun hike.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't even think about it being too dry during the winter months. I'll have to convince he we need to wait until after some good rains when the weather is nicer.

There is a nature trail in the WMA - not sure if there are waterfalls or not. The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries website has a pdf containing detailed regulations for each WMA - I'm not sure what Tunica's rifle season is.

Used to go there back when I was at LSU. Camped out once. Cool hike. Used to see nekid hikers back in the day. Also my brother in law was on a lease outside of Pond, MS. Wildlife everywhere.
