I just got an email from Rogers Sporting Goods about a tree stand recall for API stands.
"The manufacturer has recently discovered that some cable assemblies on certain 2014 climbing treestands may break during use, causing a fall hazard to users."
Me thinks that could be a pretty serious problem.
IMPORTANT PRODUCT RECALL
Please discontinue the use of the following Climbing Treestands immediately:
Product Name: The Marksman Climbing Treestand
Manufacturer: API Outdoors
Part Number: GCL300-A
Batch Number: 9G-0114 or 9G-0614
Product Name: Outlook Climber
Manufacturer: Big Game Treestands
Part Number: CL050
Batch Number: 9B-0414
Product Name: Cobalt Climber
Manufacturer: Big Game Treestands
Part Number: CL100-A
Batch Number: 9B-0214 or 9B-0514
Product Name: Fusion Climber
Manufacturer: Big Game Treestands
Part Number: CL500-AP
Batch Number: 9B-0214 or 9B-0514

This reminds me of when GM had the recall on the cables holding the tailgate. I knew people that had them break as they were loading 4 wheelers. Ouch. Treestand would be worse though.

What a shame. That original API was the shite. Once sent to China to be mfrd, not so good anymore. I would not use it. They gonna send you a new assembly?

I have an old Grand Slam that still has the original dirt bike chain. I soak that mf'er in WD40 whenever I put it up, so it only has a little rust. Rest of the stand is in perfect shape

I have Summit tree stands which is headquartered right down the road from me. I assume they sent this to everyone on their mailing list.

I have two API Grand Slam 2500s, and extra chains. Best stand ever built. You can buy the replacement chains with thick plastic coating. Well worth it. All aluminum, made in America.
