My cams run a year on a non lithium 12 volt battery and adapter cord. 30 bucks for whole setup placed in a Tupperware container with a little silicone. Don’t understand the solar panel deal, just not worth the cost

I just put out 3 DIY external battery setups for all my cameras. I bought a 12V battery from Walmart for around $19, the wiring cable from Herd 360 for about $7 plus shipping and plastic ammo case from Harbor Freight for about $6. It cost about $30-$35 each. I just put them out about a month ago. On the Wiseeye it has taken a bunch of pics + videos and the battery is holding charge really well.

My stepson has 4 of the Spypoint cell cameras, the ones with rechargeable batteries and built in solar panel.
I have been very impressed with the pictures and videos he gets.
2 are about 1 1/2 years old,2 about 6 months,
How long they last is to be determined.

The external battery/ammo box setup cost me about $60 plus I bought a lithium battery charger for $30. I'm hoping I don't need a solar panel. I figure the less moving parts, the better.

You could have bought a solar panel for what you spent here, and never had to worry about it again. We’ve got 3 cameras with panels that have been out for two yrs straight and haven’t had to do anything to them.

I would personally stay away from spypoint. I’ve used tactacam, wiseeye and moultrie. All are good, but for the money Moultrie is hard to beat. You can get the Edge on sale for 50 bucks.

Tactacam. Got several of these to replace the Skypoints I threw in the river . Lol. Takes good pictures and I’ve had mine out since late September and still on the same set of batteries.

Cameras don't have to have batteries if running on a solar panel.

So you bought the Tactacam solar panel that has the built-in lithium ion battery?

Correct… do initial charge on panel, then set it and forget it.

If it matters, spypoint is the only company that offers free pics. You can get 100 free pics per month.
