soon as they upped the power even modestly they would burn out the trasmission (same unit used in some Jeep products of the time) or blow up the rearend.
What jeep was the jatco 5r05 ever in?
Are you thinking of the aisin transmission that is the most bulletproof 4 speed auto of all time?

The jatco units for gas burners weren't the issue. The issue were the units behind the diesels.
5spd here. 305k. When Ive towed I've towed 4-5k overloaded. Zero issues.

I work for a Nissan dealer. No news of a hybrid truck. XDs are discontinued and they will discontinue the titan all together in the next few years.

When are you getting the 2024 hybrid frontiers?
Friend use to own a Nissan dealer and he gave me a deal on Titan’s he drove.
Had a Titan with diesel and gas.
Diesel - diesel was not proven had some issues. As a Cummins certified diesel tech I fixed it.
They just didn’t give it enough time to work the kinks out.
Guy who bought it from me likes it and tows a bay boat and at times a travel trailer with it no issues.
Gas- has some electrical quirks in the beginning around 800 miles. Dealer fixed and guy that bought it from me loves it.
At my age and now that I tow a smaller boat the Nissan Frontier Pro-4x is all I need. I got 50,000 no issues. Flushed transmission fluid and oil changes are simple. It moron proof truck to work on.
Still run a 1987 hardbody 4x4 at the camp. Original z24 engine, rear end, and transmission. Use to run that truck in the California desert. Lifted 6”, got winch, roll bar, and it was a king cab. Ac and my JVC cassette tape radio still work.
