Found a Ruger M77 Mark II 270 with laminated stock and stainless barrel at a pawn shop this morning. They are asing $490 for the rifle deal or no deal? What's y'all's opinions on these rifles? Will be used for deer hunting

Sounds like a good deal to me if it's in pretty good shape. If you don't want it I am looking for a 270 myself.

I have run across M77's that would not group worth a hoot....If you look at how the lug rests in the bed, there is one screw, under floor plate that holds the bed tight to the lug....With that said, my brother owns one, I put about 300 into it and with trigger job, bolt tweaking, bedding, new stock, etc....and it is a deadly tack driving killing utensil...like anything, you get good ones and bad ones....

Personally, for 490, I think you can do better....

I've got a 7 mag. The bolt isn't as smooth as some other guns, but it shoots well. I have people asking to buy it all the time, since I don't use it that often and it has become the camp gun for anyone who didn't bring a rifle. I paid less than $490 for it new, but that was 12 years ago.

Might be a good deal if it includes a decent scope as well

No scope...I don't really need it I have plenty of guns just liked to looks of it. After doing research I may pass seems a little high looking at auctions and used gun dealers on line

I have that gun in .308. Stainless with synthetic stock should be the All Weather model.

It is my primary deer gun and I have nothing bad to say about it.

IMO, $490 is high for a used one with no scope since I remember paying $700 for mine brand new.

MSRP on a new one is $900 now so.....

Had someone offer me $700 for it with a 3x9x40 nikon buckmaster scope. I was tempted to sell since that's what I paid for the whole setup, but it was my first rifle so I couldn't part ways with it. I didn't realize how much they were selling them new for now.

People that talk about them not grouping well are talking about an inch or so one way or another at most, which matters in competition shooting. In deer hunting it's a killer.
